THE LYDIA GRACE FOUNDATION
The Lydia Grace Foundation is a non profit organization created to assist and care for young girls and women leaving prostitution, destitute girls, and those displaced from their homes and families.
BACKGROUND:
The major cause of prostitution is poverty, lack of employment and absence of a stable family life. This drives many young girls and women to choose this business as the last resort for survival.
The lamentable situation coupled with the ever increasing number of female school dropouts has boosted the number of prostitutes in Nigeria to over a million, according to the UNAIDS/WHO global report (2006).
Studies have shown that many of these women don't like prostitution because it exposes them to high risk dangers like rape, murder and diseases like HIV/AIDS. Also, prostitution causes them to be looked down on and despised by the society.
